Integration & Process Visibility: Industrial automation plays as a solid foundation for future business process Improvement initiative. In many instances, individual automation is done and what is lacking is integration of disparate systems. The shop floor Control systems or machine automation PLCs shall be integrated in a seamless way through Industry proven Integration platforms like SCADA. Utilizing the Integration platform, we shall be able to track the entire manufacturing process operations of different sites in one common view. For example, each of the production subsystem may have individual HMIs which are standalone and if we combine such each view into one production overall view it really helps.

Aggregation of Data: When all subsystem data is integrated into relevant data silos, the same could be aggregated for various analytical purposes. MIS reports would be automatically generated. In addition to that business process workflow automation can be designed and implemented. Use-cases of different nature will evolve as we proceed on to include the unstructured data also.

Material tracking: On-time inventory management across the production assembly lines is the life line of the shop floor. Track with proper visibility of each of the vital components and provide the insights to engineering, procurement and management for a seamless action. Sensing with RFID or through other means, the movement of materials used for production will provide the Inventory Management a right direction.

Safety and Security: Factory automation combined with Facility Management and IIoT will create a safe and secure platform for operations. On a real-time basis, unsafe production negligent events shall be linked to automated safety measures and provide alarms to both management and operators.

Plan vs Actual: Plans are normally owned by higher management and the report of comparing with the actual production happens much later. Market based production planning for your line of business demands high level of accurate feedback from actual production systems. Manipulations & errors if avoided in manual data entries shall provide more clarity in generation of automated Plan vs Actual reports.

Market feedback: Providing a Mobile based feedback mechanism from your customers on real time basis will improve the interactions in the market. The chat or chatbot based messaging will guide the present or potential customer to get the maximum attention and close the loop within your Eco system. The time to act will reduce, thus improving the attention spectrum to the right customer in a correct way.

On a case-to-case basis, many such use-cases will be scrutinized for each of the shop floor requirements, with the involvement of customer teams. IIoT combined with Business Analytics and MIS reporting tools, can improve both from top line and base line perspective. Most of the manufacturing industry pioneers have multiple production sites which complicates: Standardization of process, aggregation of data, resources sharing on timely basis, consolidation of reports, analytical view point across multiple entities etc.
